Brikama (Kombo Central District)

Where:

Brikama is a large and busy town with a population of over sixty thousand about 30km south of Banjul.  It is the local transport hub for the south bank, and is the seat of Brikama Area Council, which is largest council in the country, and is responsible for over a quarter of the nation's population.

What:

WEC established 'Hands on Care' in Brikama, a ministry to meet the medical and spiritual needs of the chronically ill (including HIV/AIDS and TB) of the Brikama area.  The work was subsequently handed over to a local NGO, but WEC continues to second people to the project.  Another ministry established by WEC in Brikama is the weekly women's Bible study group.

Who?

Usually we have at least one medically trained long-term person seconded to the Hands on Care project, and often a short-termer either seconded to Hands on Care, or teaching in a local school.
