Where: Sibanor is a small rural town about 80 km from the Atlantic coast situated on the main south bank highway. Almost half of the 4000 population are children. The main ethnic groups are Jola and Mandinka. Sibanor has a primary and a middle school, three mosques and an ECG church, a telephone exchange, a petrol station and a market.
What: WEC has several projects in Sibanor that reach out to various groups of people: the acutely and chronically ill, the children and Youth, as well to the major local ethnic group, the Jolas. Specifically, Sibanor is the location of our large rural health centre, Jola Literacy, and in association with ECG, the Christian Pre-School
Who? We are a large multi-disciplinary multi-cultural team that supports one another in our diverse ministries. The Sibanor team is always welcoming new comers, and saying good-bye to others, and usually consists of a team of medical personnel (doctors, nurses, and midwives), teachers for the Christian Pre-School and local government schools, Jola Literacy workers, and several willing short-terms who are often known as ‘General Helpers’. In addition to the WEC team, about 60 nationals are employed as nurses, midwives, ambulance drivers, teachers, teaching assistants, and literacy workers.
We are always open to people coming to join our team who have skills or interests in medicine, administration, literacy, youth work and education. |
